After designing for big names in the denim world, Rotterdam-based designer Clothilde Alexandra Cruden (nicknamed Sam) decided to take her love for the métier a step further and started her own brand in 2009: C.Cruden.
The C.Cruden collection is raw and edgy, yet über feminine and luxurious, always valuing the virtues of craftsmanship.
Her knowledge of fabrics is extraordinary and characterises her entire collection. Experimentation is a hallmark of Sam’s approach to fashion. The designer's atelier almost functions as a laboratorium where she passionately experiments with fabrics, colours and prints. It’s no secret that Sam’s favourite dye is indigo, because it’s the only pigment that “lives” over time. Indigo is usually used to dye denim, but it can actually be used for so many different fabrics.
Design and manual improvement take place in Sam’s Rotterdam basement atelier, where every piece of clothing single handily passes through her hands.
Sam doesn’t make compromises when designing her collections. She gives every collection, and the creative process behind it, the time it needs and she designs at her own pace, without rushing it.
